Based out of the Congregation of Forgotten Saints clothing store on Melrose, Art Core’s first music/art/fashion exhibition, Honoring Metal Through Art, brought together some of LA’s finest through a singular love of all things Metal. Not only could you get your kicks from some rocked out art, rubber corsets, and Jagermeister with Monster, but works at the show’s opening reception were, also, auctioned off to raise money for the Little Kids Rock Organization, a group dedicated to providing children in under-served public schools with musical education. We are totally into charity & education, especially in regards to creating little metal heads and art junkies.
Artists like Cam De Leon, Vince Locke, Eric Pigors, D.W. Frydendall, Christopher Ulrich, Matthew Bone, and Nikko Hurtado were just a few of the big names from music and art that came together for the event. Anna Chung, one of the show’s curators, said it best: “Metal music and the art associated with it have always gone hand in hand. What other musical genre can you think of that is so closely tied in with the iconic imagery created by those who love it?”
The Art Core itself is an eclectic mix of art & fashionistas; headed by Cody Verona, one of the biggest names in dressing the Metal scene, along with Jeremy Cross of Bastard Art and Hyaena Gallery affliation, and Chung, the group offers an eclectic vision and unique vision, very appropriate to their Melrose locale. After putting together such an over-the-top & amazing show, think red carpets with multi-colored dredded guests with tattoos a plenty, and auctioning off items like a Cam Rackam skate deck, Frankie Babylon’s Black Metal Smurf, and a hand made steam-punk style violin from Viktor Brazfield, we can’t wait to see what the Core has in store for us next.
Hit up the Metal before it is no more at the Congregation of Forgotten Saints, 7569 Melrose Ave., showing until Dec 13th.
